At first they seem a little hesitant, they don’t know if they can be trusted. But then they let themselves be won over by her kindness and constant attention. After all, they are just puppies who ask for nothing more than to be loved and protected. It doesn’t matter if they are cats and she is a dog. A female Pit Bull. The protagonist of this story – present on Instagram (@shicks403) is a dog with a truly special gift, which allowed him to become a perfect surrogate mother for dozens of cats waiting for a family.

As her human, Susan Hicks, says, “Ginger comforts, accompanies and takes care of all the puppies who pass through our house. Her skills are extraordinary.” And although at first they “seem reluctant” to have “a canine surrogate mother”, “I have never seen a cat leave our house without loving Ginger. She has an unmatched ability to welcome, it’s a kind of magic”. Thanks to kindness, empathy, affection and care she gives to felines, Ginger has become the official mascot of Susan’s Geo Beats Animals rescue center.

And to think that Ginger was also a puppy in difficulty. She was pregnant when she was taken under Susan’s wing: she gave birth to nine puppies, all adopted in a very short time. And when her turn came too, the woman understood that she had developed a particular attachment to her. And she never let her go again. The same love received from the woman, she now gives back to the other puppies in difficulty. “She was so sweet and kind. I immediately knew that if I wanted to continue saving animals, she would be an amazing member of my team.” And so it was.

When a new cat arrives, Ginger allows them to come closer as if they were feeding on her mother’s milk, even if in reality this is not the case. Their owner said that the Pit Bull understands that they need to be looked after, he knows when they should receive food and he never misses anything. “Some of the older kittens are a little more resistant to having a canine surrogate, but she always convinces them in the end. I don’t remember any feline entering skeptically and leaving with the same thought. “Her presence alone is enough to brighten the lives of the cats under her care.” When they are scared or cold, she will be there for them. Her calm and maternal energy is fantastic for these kittens who learn to interact with dogs too.”

Susan doesn’t fully understand what lies behind “Ginger’s magic” or “what makes some cats completely change after living with her dog.” However, it is precisely the pit bull’s skill that makes her love her work even more, and this “also allows me to show the world how sweet, loving and gentle pit bulls are and not the horrible creatures they are often portrayed as” .
