Edition number 75 for the Liberation Trophy which moves to Tivoli for the great celebration of Roman athletics: many of the big names competing, the stars of the Italian national team take to the track and collect applause and personal bests. The regional president Fabio Martelli and Andrea Barberi’s family were present for the first Memorial dedicated to him. Organization by Villa Gordiani and Fidal Lazio and rankings included in World Athletics. In the Civitavecchia ranks Myriam Tofi wins the Liberation Trophy in the 3000m in 10’22”03 and silver medal for Asia Bernardini in 10’30”35 at the PB. Silver and minimum for the Italian championships in the student category postponed by just one hundredth for Gabriele Cecchetti who runs the 200m in 22″86 at the PB. The teammates tackled the curve very well, fighting against the unfavorable meters of wind: Masoni Filippo 23”11, Joel Calbi 23”69, Alessio Mangano 24”08, Dario Brizi 24”73, Alessio Gabella 25”45 PB; Aurora D’Onorio in her first year in the category achieved the PB in 27″51 and Eleonora Restivo in her first experience recorded 29″46.
On the lap PB for Alessio Feuli in 50″19, Riccardo Vanzetti 50″89, Federico Ubaldi 53″15, Marco Borghini 55″25, Simone Spurio 56″09 at PB, Tommaso Muneroni 57″17 at PB, Vincenzo Franzese 1 ’00”96 and Sara Pontani 1’03”84. The Liberation event is considered by all athletics to be the opening of the track season, personal bests and race strategies are the calling card for the outdoor season that is about to begin.
«Numerous results, all significant. We showed up at Liberazione with 40 athletes/race who certainly did not disappoint expectations, showing off notable performances resulting in numerous personal bests. Now we enter the heart of the season with a truly challenging month of May for all categories.”
After the speed tests, we start with the longer distance races: 800m Matteo Testi 2’09″77 at PB, Daniele Soresina 2’14″72, Annalisa De Fazi 2’36″45 and Consuelo Giovagnoli in 2’41 ”85. Gioele Romiti and Leonardo Dolci run the 3000m, the latter finishes in 9’21”47, 9’29”44 a Pb for Romiti, a good test for them for the 10000m of the upcoming Italian distance championship to be held in Potenza in May. 400 with barriers for Lorenzo Patanè and Andrea Augelli, different category heights with 91cm and 58”61 and 84cm for the student who finished in 1’03”47. A cautious 1500m for Matilde Patane’ and Nicole Serra on their debut, the junior and the student finishing in 5’20”17 and 5’56”61. In the high jump Gabriele Tarricone was 4th with a measurement of 1.89m. The thread of Civitavecchia Athletics runs to Ravenna from Federico Orlando, athlete and middle distance coach who recorded a positive 4’19”01 in the 1500m of the Romagna Liberation Trophy.
Youth Liberation Trophy divided into two phases: on this first day the cadets achieved numerous personal bests and the leader of the group Lorenzo Aradis boasted a bronze in the 1000m in 2’51”58; same race for Chiara Fanelli in 3’31”26 and in the 300m Giordano Peluso breaks the 40” barrier in 39”48, Viola Riccetti in 44”88 places herself among the six medalists in the U16 category. At the jump platforms Pelliccione lands in the sand at 4.40m and Irene Riccobello at 4.15m; above, Irene puts the medal for 6th place around her neck at 1.42m with Sofia Della Giacoma at her debut in the race with the measurement of 1.38m. The intense and stimulating day of competition ends with the beautiful performances of Beatrice Pelliccione in the 80 hurdles closed in 13″18 and of Francesca Susca in the 300m in 47″12.
