From 7 to 19 May the stage of Belli Theatre welcomes THE BEE HOUSE, show written and directed by Sargis Galstyan.
The Bee House is a drama starring Melisso De Sapio and Deborah Moncinelle. Melisso, admitted to a psychiatric hospital, is about to commit suicide. Being a linguist he tends to analyze every event of his life in a somewhat paradoxical way: he tries to decipher everything starting from the etymology of words trying to reveal the meaning of every object and every phenomenon. With him, Dr. Deborah Moncinelle, who will demonstrate, however, that she is a rational person, well integrated into society. She also carries a strong trauma, namely the suicide of her father. Deborah will reflect on the life she lived, calling into question details that seemed indisputable to her, especially from a scientific point of view. And this is how she will have to deal with Melisso who is capable of breaking every stereotype on which society is based. Although the memory of her father’s suicide causes Deborah pain and suffering, Melisso reminds her of her father and soon a feeling bordering on love is born between the two.
The show aims to represent reality seen from Melisso’s eyes: a cage from which man is able to see beyond the walls of his prison and perceive a constant presence, capable of manipulating everything, everything, even Deborah’s behavior. The text makes us reflect, dealing with difficult topics that we have been wondering about for centuries, maintaining, however, a line of comedy that lightens the tragedy of the two characters, demonstrating that in every great tragedy there is hidden a significant portion of irony, cynical humor and comedy in which everyone could find themselves.
“ With the show The Bee House let’s discover a life full of questions to which there seem to be no answers”- notes the author and director Sargis Galstyan. “And despite the fact that these are global questions that we have been wondering about for thousands of years, we have accepted and learned almost all the answers without analyzing them or examining them in depth. But the most incomprehensible thing is that, being often aware of the deception in which we find ourselves, we still continue to accept it, fearing to confront the truth. A truth that could also be questionable, because the truth is often just a point of view, but a legitimate point of view and equal to any other point of view accepted by society. A society that mistakenly believes itself to be democratic. One of the topics the show deals with is the concept of work. What is work? The French writer and art critic Remy De Gourmont defined it like this:“We have reached such a level of imbecility that we consider work not only honorable, but even sacred, while it is nothing more than a sad necessity.” Certainly for thousands of people it will be a questionable, unacceptable or even scandalous opinion, but it is an opinion that has the right to exist if not to be accepted as a truth.”
