Genoa. On a difficult day due to adverse weather conditions, the second selection race for the Piediluco national regatta took place in the Genova Prà rowing basin, with the participation of four athletes from the Naval League of Savona on three boats, who obtained a gold medal, a bronze and a fifth place.

Michele Loffredo climbed to the top step of the podium in the single Master specialty over the distance of 1,000 meters at the end of a race always conducted in the lead with a gap ahead of the athlete from the Canottieri Elpis of Genoa.

The bronze medal was obtained in the Under 17 double over 2,000 meters by the crew made up of Giulio Boatini and Francesco Cannatello who, after winning their qualifying heat, took a well-deserved third place in the final considering that overall there were nine competitors in this specialty.

Michelangelo Malinconico’s fifth place in the Under 17 meters 2,000m single was unlucky as he, after having brilliantly obtained the third time in the qualifying heats with a time of 8’35”10, due to a strong pain in his shoulder, was unable to finish in the final. could have done better than a 9’35” performance that was decidedly lower than the athlete’s value.

“Overall the trip was positive because the boys demonstrated that they can compete without awe even against very respectable opponents, despite the preparation at sea having been partially compromised by the problematic weather conditions in April” declare the LNI managers Savona.

The next trip for the Savona rowers will be to the Club Meeting in San Giorgio di Nogaro on 25 and 26 May.
