“No one has helped us for seven months”

In Israel, Haaretz reports that two people were arrested after shouting verbal abuse and throwing stones and eggs at a demonstration held by relatives of people held hostage in Gaza that was attempting to block a highway in Tel Aviv.

During the rally Ayala Metzger, daughter-in-law of hostage Yoram Metzger, criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, saying: “There has been a tragedy in the state of Israel that cannot be ignored. No one came to help after seven months, no one came to the rescue. It’s time to bring them home, we will do everything and continue to disrupt daily life until they come home.”

At the same time, in Jerusalem, a demonstration was held directly in front of Netanyahu’s house. A statement from the protest group read: “After being promised for six months that only by fighting can we bring them home, we now all know that the only way to save those who can be saved is through an agreement. We ask the prime minister: he does not succumb to extremist pressure, who uses the hostages as an excuse to continue waging war. It’s time to choose life. Those who have let us down must give them back.”

The group put up posters of some of the women still detained in Gaza as part of the demonstration.
