ROME – May 1st 2024he performs on the stage of the Concertone in Rome Rose Villain. He is among the most anticipated names in this year’s line-up, lately every time he appears on TV, makes a guest appearance on the radio or has a public engagement (after the last Sanremo there have been many), his name ends up trending on social media, and not just in Italy. Her «Like a thunder», duet with Guè taken from the latest album «Radio Sakura» (it also includes the Sanremo hit «Click Boom»), is first in all the rankings. It is not difficult, therefore, to frame Rose as one of the women of the moment. She is artistically centered (she chose to be a singer when she was a child, never had a plan B), she has her own character (the unforgettable interview in which she was asked to show her legs and she replied: «But do you also ask men this?»), ironic with marked intelligence and – it must be said – beautiful.
Participation in the Concertone del Primo Maggio in Rome today (for the second consecutive year) is only the latest of his successes. Rosa Luini (this is her real name) is experiencing a golden period, fully deserved after a very long apprenticeship, in defiance of those who – with a hint of envy – remind her that her father is an entrepreneur, as if it were his fault. No help: Rose studied (she trained in Los Angeles, then moved to New York where she lives commuting to Milan), signed with Republic Records – Drake and Ariana Grande’s label – which she then had the courage to leave because she wanted to distort her and her songs. She writes and sings about her love for her music and for her husband, the producer Sixpm (Andrea «Andy» Ferrara, with a dizzying CV: he is among the names behind the hits of Guè, Salmo and many others).
But why, in our opinion, is she one of the women of the moment? Because at 34 years old she takes every opportunity to send messages of social commitment, feminism, attention to tough issues such as depression, suicide and mental health. She does it in music and not only: on the May Day stage she goes up wearing a shirt with a black heart and the words “Human Rights”; «Rome, what an emotion… look at how much music unites, and how much need for union there is at this moment» she says excitedly from the stage. She sings «Io, me e altri guai», «Michelle Pfeiffer», the intense «Transparente», about loneliness. Then the super-hit «Come un thunder», and the grand finale with «Click Boom», making the whole Circus Maximus scream.
The 12 tracks of «Radio Sakura» (it was released on March 8 and in a month and a half it exceeded 100 million streams), after all, they speak to a vast audience: it is about to reach one million followers on Instagram, during the guest appearance on «Propaganda Live » last week she spoke of her partisan grandfather’s commitment, and wondered – with courageous candor – why April 25th is still a divisive date. And the public acclaims her (the video of her participation in the last stage of Annalisa’s tour in Milan is viral), recognizing themselves in this girl who is called Rose but has blue hair, and who is transforming the short circuits of contemporary society into melody , all seasoned with a beautiful voice.
She is one of the women of the moment because an exciting summer awaits her: she will be around festivals all over Italy (no dates are yet scheduled in Puglia, but we can anticipate her presence in the cast of Radio Norba Cornetto Battiti Live), she will open the four Coldplay concerts at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, and then continue – in October – with the club tour where he will bring all the energy and emotions of «Radio Sakura» (tickets on sale in the usual circuits, the calendar is at the end of ‘item).
A star that is shining, a career built with passion and commitment, a woman who brings “cazzimma” but also heart to the stage, with a pinch of luck that sent her mother from heaven, who passed away prematurely. Rose, with your music you have been trying to tell us something for some time, or rather you are succeeding. And it doesn’t matter if they still get the accent of your name wrong (it’s said Vìllain, not Villàin, the writer knows something about wrong names and surnames): if it continues, they will hear it like this for a very long time, and they won’t be able to help but learn it .
