A 34-year-old man died while trying to escape from a grocery store in Prepo where he had broken into during the night, presumably to steal.

The Carabinieri intervened around midnight after the emergency number was called reporting the break-in at a food business in the Prepo area.

The military, who arrived on site, found the body of a 34-year-old of Tunisian origins, homeless, with a police record. From the investigations carried out, it emerged that the man, once he entered the business, was caught by the owner forcing the cash register. Once discovered, the 34-year-old attempted to escape through a very small window at the back of the room, but remained stuck with his body dangling outside and his neck and arms inside, probably dying from mechanical asphyxiation.

Following this, the Carabinieri from the Perugia station, the Company’s Radiomobile Section, arrived, as well as personnel from the 118 health service and the Fire Brigade.

The deputy prosecutor on duty requested an autopsy and all the necessary investigations to establish the causes of death.
