Tomorrow Imola will dedicate an entire day of commemorations to Ayrton Senna, one of the most talented Formula 1 drivers of all time who died in an accident on May 1st 1994. Also remembered is Roland Ratzenberger, the almost rookie Austrian driver who died a few hours earlier in another accident during practice that tragic weekend. ‘Magic’, as the great Brazilian from Sao Paulo was nicknamed, lost his life at just 34 years of age due to the right front wheel breaking off upon impact with the barriers and hitting the driver’s helmet, right on the edge of the visor. Four hours later he died in Bologna hospital. The Emilian municipality and the Autodromo have planned a full calendar of events in honor of the three-time world champion winner of 41 Grands Prix entitled ‘Senna 30 years’, in collaboration with the Ayrton Senna Institute, the Foreign Minister and the Emilia Romagna region. The initiatives will develop throughout the day, with the highlight being at 2.17pm, the time of Senna’s accident at the Tamburello curve, with a minute’s silence. On stage there will be greetings from the deputy prime minister and foreign minister, Antonio Tajani, from his Brazilian colleague Mauro Vieira, and from his Austrian colleague, Alexander Schallenberg, from the mayor of Imola, Marco Panieri, from the CEO of Formula One, Stefano Domenicali and from the President of Formula Imola, Gian Carlo Minardi. At the end, the delegation of the authorities will move to the Villeneuve curve, the scene of Ratzenberger’s accident, where bouquets of flowers will be laid. “The memory of Senna and Ratzenberger will also be an opportunity for dialogue, relationships and listening between peoples, between cultures and will unite different continents, throughout these months and in particular on May 1st” underlines Mayor Panieri. The circuit it will be open free of charge to the public from 9am to 6pm. A ‘flag mob’ is planned at 9.30am: a walk dedicated to Ayrton and Roland, with the invitation to wear the colors of the Brazilian and Austrian flags. It will be screened at 4.30pm in the Media Center of the Autodromo the documentary on Ratzenberger, followed at 4.45pm by a moment dedicated to Ayrton with the presentation of the book by journalist Franco Nugnes entitled “Senna. Le Verità”, with free access until seats last. in the Ebe Stignani municipal theater (via Verdi 1), the free show “Fresi recounts Senna” will be staged, a monologue on the life of Ayrton Senna told by Stefano Fresi.
