six witnesses against him. «At least three episodes in a single month»

There are six people who clearly testify to the theft of a bottle of Chance (Chanel) in the duty free of Terminal 1 of Fiumicino. Six similar versions indicating Piero Fassino as the perpetrator of the shoplifting episode of April 15th.

In the meantime, the video and information have been filed: the «perfumes» case is now in the hands of the magistrates of Civitavecchia who they could soon enter Fassino’s name in the register of suspects.

The crime complained of is theft but it is an accusation which, despite its linearity, deserves further investigation. In fact, the airport police officers (Polaria) are collecting other material: above all direct testimonies from the employees of the duty free shop where the events occurred.

The issue to be resolved concerns the possible recurrence. And here it should be pointed out that, according to investigators, on 15 April at the Terminal 1 shop the latest in a series of episodes, all in the last month, all perfume-related. The dem deputy would have ventured among the shelves of essences for the first time in recent weeks while waiting for a flight to Strasbourg. Even in that case he would have taken a perfume by passing beyond the perimeter of the checkouts without paying.

The security guards stopped him, according to practice, and, at that point, the former Minister of Justice reached into his wallet to pay the bill. All under the watchful eye of the cameras that recorded.

So there was a second time, a few days later. Same shop. Same shelves. Same article, a perfume. The gentleman ventured past the crates with the bottle and left. The supervisory authorities decided to let it go.

Finally we arrive at thelast episode. This time a 130 euro (discounted) pack of Chanel essence.

The images show him slipping the bottle into his jacket pocket. The hands, contrary to what was initially stated, do not appear busy.

The deputy justified himself by accrediting the version of the ringing cell phone: hence the move to place the perfume in his jacket pocket. Nothing more, he had said, than a temporary solution with the intention of paying for the product regularly. The intervention of the vigilante (with which Fassino reacted verbally: “you don’t know who I am”) and the complaint from the owners of the duty free shop are news of the last few days.

The Fassino defense (lawyer Nicola Gianaria) could offer a reinterpretation of the case in the future. Would someone who wanted to steal really do it under the eye of the camera? Wasn’t it just a clumsy move at best?

The tenuousness of the fact is also in favor of Fassino. The magistrates will now have to decide what to do.
