I signed up for the International School of Comics Of Turin where I met a Mickey Mouse cartoonist and started working right there in my second year of school”.

THE INTERVIEW

Mickey Mouse is my main work, but since this year I have been collaborating with other companies. I’m working on volumes with French publishing houses and on illustrations for card games and American films. I recently worked on Lorcana, a Disney-themed card game“, goes on Zanchi.

How is a story born? “For Mickey Mouse, for example, it was born through a script, then there is my role, the designer, who takes the story and translates it into illustrations. There are also designers who are complete authors and do everything from story to drawing, like Zerocalcare or Gipi“, explains Zanchi.

Among the stories that remained in the author’s heart, one with a protagonist Gaston: “A character super hated by the Disney world and by readers, a character ‘who knows everything’ and super lucky, the opposite of Donald Duck. In this story we managed to address a very profound theme, the loneliness of this character who is as lucky as he is alone”.
