It had been redeveloped with the idea of ​​creating markets for the marketing of local agricultural and agri-food products and for the promotion of typical local crafts and small businesses. And now, in Piazza Buonarroti, the initiative is about to come to life.

For four Sundaysin the square dedicated to divine artist Michelangelo where the statue of has also been located for years Pope John Paul II (remember the controversy over the possible change of title?), the “extraordinary zero kilometer fair“. We start on May 26ththen it will continue on June 30th and September 29th with closing, unless extended, on October 27th.

Expected 12 exhibition stands which will be made available free of charge by the administration on an experimental basis, with uniform and standard characteristics in order to guarantee homogeneity to the market and consistency with the existing architecture. Four stalls will be reserved for artisan businesses regularly registered in the relevant register, exclusively for the sale of local craft goods of their own production. Another eight, however, will be allocated to agricultural entrepreneurs and direct farmers registered in the special section of agricultural businesses at the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Crafts and Agriculture for the sale of production coming mainly from their respective companies.

As stated in the resolution of the municipal council, it is one experimental initiative. The provision specifies that “a public notice aimed at acquiring expressions of interest and availability from economic operators in possession of the envisaged requirements” must be announced.

To the initiative in Piazza Buonarroti, the Municipality connects another event called “PrimaVeraFest” which will take place in the village of Corato starting Friday 10 May. «A wide range of cultural, sporting, tourist and gastronomic initiatives will be envisaged – says the council resolution – also promoted with local associations» as well as «initiatives aimed at beautifying and making the streets and squares of the village welcoming with the installation of plants, festive decorations, floral themed scenography, colored umbrellas, 2D blow-ups and lights. The participation of residents and traders will be promoted to enhance the aesthetic aspect of the village also by holding a competition for the best flowered shop window and the best flowered balcony.”

The events will cost a total of 57 thousand euros: 8 thousand for the extraordinary zero kilometer fair and 49 thousand for the PrimaVeraFest.

The council has delegated the Suap «the activation of the procedure for the selection and identification of a single external economic operator who will carry out the following activities: planning and management of the two events, set-up and supply of stands for extraordinary fairs, construction and decoration services for works in the village (conception, construction, supply, transport, installation, maintenance, etc…), coordination of the entire communication through social channels and paper media; and the drafting of the public notice for the acquisition of expressions of interest from economic operators in participating in the extraordinary zero kilometer fair”.
