The state road 11 Padana Superiore was closed from 5am to 6pm on Monday 29 April in the section between Caravaggio and Mozzanica, for the overturning of a tanker truck loaded with 98% pure sulfuric acid onto the side of the road.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was extracted from the cockpit by the firefighters, now present with the Nbcr (nuclear bacteriological chemical radiological) nucleus from Milan and Bergamo. There was no liquid spill in the accident. The contents of the tank will have to be transferred to another truck and this will take several hours. Reason why Anas closed the state road. The heavy vehicle was headed to a nearby chemical company. The carabinieri and local police were also on site.
«Due to the accident, State Road 11 is closed to traffic in both directions in the stretch between via Panizzardo and the intersection with via Marconi in the Fornovo area – explains the mayor Claudio Bolandrini on social profiles -. A tanker carrying sulfuric acid went off the road and ended up in a nearby ditch. There was no damage to the environment because following the impact there were no spills of chemical substances outside. The firefighters who promptly intervened with special units, together with the Carabinieri and local police, are emptying the tank and then proceeding with the safe removal of the vehicle. Traffic will therefore remain closed until the works are completed.”
