Dogs evicted after owner’s death in Terralba, and protests are raging La Nuova Sardegna

Terralba The tenant dies and the Municipality, owner of the accommodation, “evicts” the two dogs of the deceased elderly man and puts them on the street. It is a story that almost seems like a remake of “Umberto D”, by Vittorio De Sica, the one reported by Anna Rita Deiana, head of Anta, an animal rights association that has been operating in the town for two decades. Deiana, indignant to say the least, sent a letter of protest to the mayor, Sandro Pili and to the Council of Terralba. He writes that he found the dogs on the street and that he thought, at first, that they had “escaped”.

«But then, what I have achieved, I believe is beyond all imagination – we read -. A nice padlock on the door of the house and as if that wasn’t enough, a rope tied to the handle. I realized that the dogs had not gone out alone but had been thrown out, I don’t know if the night before and therefore they slept in the open or early in the morning, it doesn’t matter, the gravity of the gesture remains, and also the question of the reason for this wickedness , and why there was a padlock that prevented access to the house even though the assets of the deceased were still there and had already been subjected to “pressure” on your part to accept admission to the facility and vacate the accommodation that you needed ».

Deiana writes that the mayor knew that she went to that house twice a day to look after the dogs awaiting their transfer “and it was also your knowledge that after her death her niece was collecting her personal effects”. The volunteer, who reserves the right to take legal action, writes «I believe that there is a bit of “confusion” in your actions and in that of your offices. Your actions highlight how thin the line is between acting in an official capacity and abuse of office, between acting according to the rules and acting on the basis of one’s personal beliefs. No one can seize a property without a formal warrant, especially after throwing out elderly dogs, preventing them from even accessing food.”
