Paralympic swimming: Italy European champion with the stars of the Fiamme oro

The European Paralympic Swimming Championships, the highest continental competition and the last test before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, ended in Madeira (Portugal).

The Italian national team is European champion thanks to the Italian athletes who dominated the competition, finishing in first place in the medal table with 63 medals, 26 gold, 21 silver and 16 bronze.

The contribution of the policemen of the Fiamme oro paralympic section and of those registered was fundamental, capable of winning 21 gold medals, 10 silver and 6 bronze. A great success and a lot of satisfaction for the technical director of the national team and the Fiamme oro Riccardo Vernole.

In the swimming pool of the Complexo de Penteada in Funchal, the technical agents of the Sports Group of the State Police left an indelible mark by winning 21 golds out of the 26 brought home by the Azzurri.

Above all, our Carlotta Gilli, capable of putting five precious metals around her neck (100 butterfly – 50, 100, 400 freestyle S13 – 200 medley SM13) and a silver in the 100 backstroke S13.

Also on the top step of the podium four times each were the agents Stefano Raimondi (100 breaststroke SB9 – 100 butterfly and freestyle S10 – 200 medley SM10), Simone Barlaam (100 butterfly S9 – 50 and 100 freestyle S9 – fractionist in the 4×100 mixed freestyle), Monica Boggioni (50m breaststroke SB3 – 200m medley SM5 – 100m and 200m freestyle S5).

Double gold for the agent Antonio Fantin (100 and 400 freestyle S6) and one each for the technical policewoman Giulia Ghiretti (100 breaststroke SB4) and the Fiamme oro registered athlete Francesco Bocciardo (200 freestyle S5).

Stefano Raimondi also took three silver medals around his neck (20 freestyle S10 – 100 backstroke S10 – participant in the 4×100 mixed medley).

Double silver for Giulia Ghiretti (50m butterfly S5 – 200m medley SM5), Monica Boggioni (50m freestyle S5 – member of the 4x50m freestyle mixed) and Francesco Bocciardo (50m freestyle S5 – member of the 4x50m freestyle mixed). Silver also for Efrem Morelli (50 freestyle SB3).

Double bronze for Fiamme oro member Francesco Bettella (50 and 100 backstroke S1) and one each for Francesco Bocciardo (100 freestyle S5), Giulia Terzi (100 freestyle S7), Giorgia Marchi (100 breaststroke SB14), Monica Boggioni and Vincenzo Boni (fractionists with the 4×50 mixed medley).
