ACROPOLIS SWIM OPEN 2024

The final evening of the Acropolis Open 2024 took place yesterday in Athens, with two Italian players as protagonists.

MEN’S COMPETITIONS DAY 3

The Italian Thomas Ceccon world record holder, he won the men’s 100 backstroke in 52.99, setting his best time of 2024.

After swimming 52.27 at the Berlin leg of the 2023 World Cup, Ceccon set a solid 53.49 at the Italian Championships in March in the first leg of the 4×100 medley relay.

Last night, Ceccon opened in 25.86 and closed in 27.13 to hold off Apostolos Christouof the host nation, who secured silver in 53.35. Christou it fell below the Olympic qualifying time of 53.74 needed for Paris 2024.

Ceccon’s training partner, Michael Lamberti completed the podium in 54.41.

Ceccon is currently the second fastest athlete in the world this season, thanks to the time trial achieved in Berlin.

In the women’s 100 meter backstroke, the Canadian Kylie Masse, he achieved the fastest result and the only sub-minute performance.

Masse posted a time of 58.93 at the Spanish Open in February and is ranked sixth in the world this season.

The seventeen year old Curtis took to the water early in the session, competing in the women’s 50m freestyle.

Curtis he set a time of 24.66 to set a new meeting record, just 10 hundredths away from the Italian national record of 24.56 which he set at the Italian championships in March. That performance qualified Sara Curtis for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

  • Georgia Damasioti took gold in the women’s 200 butterfly, with a time of 2:10.43.
  • The Spanish swimmer Arbidel Gonzalez Alvarez took the podium in the men’s 200 butterfly in 1:58.64. The silver went to Apostolos Siskos (1:58.99).
