Three days dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and the valorization of the territory are coming to Torremaggiore with ‘L’Oro di Puglia and L’Oro di Federico II’ scheduled from 3 to 5 May. This year the event dedicated to oil producers, enthusiasts and lovers of extra virgin olive oil, includes not only moments of tasting and conviviality but also training, talk shows and hackathons. This edition will also host the Heritage Wine Festival, a sensorial journey into the world of wine set in fascinating and historic places in the area.

We start on Friday 3 May at 10am at the Ducal Castle with the oil introduction meeting dedicated to the students of the ISISS ‘Fiani – Leccisotti’ of Torremaggiore organized by the ‘Olea – International School of Sensory Analysis and Food Culture’ association . In the afternoon, starting from 5pm (always at the Ducal Castle) the ‘La Peranzana’ association will tell the story of the Peranzana cultivar with video screenings, readings of fairy tales and tastings of extra virgin olive oil. The meeting will be hosted by Massima Manzelli, president of the association, and a special intervention is expected from Olea Panel Leader Renzo Ceccacci who will lead a very special tasting of extra virgin olive oil. The meeting will end with the Aperanzana, the aperitif that combines olives and Peranzana oil.

The morning of Saturday 4 May will be dedicated to the talk show and hackathon organized by the University of Foggia and the Food District with local associations. Speaking about ‘Economics, marketing and communication for Olive Oil and Territory’ will be Antonio Stasi, professor of Agricultural Economics and Policy at the University of Foggia and Angela Della Penna, copywriter and communicator. The hackathon with the students will follow, which aims to produce an editorial plan for social media capable of evoking the history, images and value of Peranzana oil. There will be two themes assigned to the students who will work divided into groups: ‘The quality of Peranzana (health and nutritional aspects) for the valorisation of extra virgin olive oil’ and ‘The emotional value of oil through people, territory and history’. After the presentation of the ideas and the pitches, the jury (composed of the proponents and the talk speakers) will select and reward the two best proposals (one per theme). Saturday will continue with the Daunia Rurale Taste Fair scheduled in Piazza Italia from 7pm to 11pm, which will see the exhibition and the possibility of tasting the agri-food products of the companies of the Gal Daunia Rurale 2020, of the ‘La Peranzana’ association ‘ and the Peranzana Consortium.

On Sunday 5 May at 11 am at the Ducal Castle there will be the awards ceremony for the 16th Regional Award ‘L’Oro della Puglia’ and the 5th Regional Award ‘L’Oro di Federico II’. Speakers will include the Mayor of Torremaggiore Emilio Di Pumpo, the President of the Gal Daunia Rurale 2020 Paki Attanasio, the director of the Gal Daunia Rurale 2020 Dante De Lallo, the president of the Olea association Renzo Ceccacci and the director and head of the Olea panel Giorgio Sorcinelli.
