Rescaldina was transformed for a day into the scene of a major emergency: on Saturday 27 April, in fact, they were simulated in the village several fires in the wooded areas of Rescalda, even close to homesas part of a provincial-level Civil Protection exercise in the forest fire prevention sector which involved around a hundred operatorsengaged in the field together with the Fire Brigade, ambulances, Carabinieri and Local Police.

Since the early hours of the morning the gym of the Raimondi secondary school in Rescalda was set up as the base camp for the exercise: from there the vehicles involved in the initiative went back and forth towards the different scenarios, which attracted several onlookers along the roads – in some cases subject to changes to the road system -, above all to watch with their noses in the air the passages of the helicopter, which on several occasions filled up with water from the tank set up in via Monte Grappa and then use it to put out simulated forest fires.
«Today’s exercise is very important for us in the Metropolitan City as the Rescaldina area reflects very well a situation widespread throughout the metropolitan areawith an urbanization that presents strong interconnections with the wooded areas and consequently a considerable increase in the risk of forest fire – explains Carlo Guzzetti, head of the Civil Protection Service of the Civil Protection Sector of the Metropolitan City of Milan, who thanks all the entities involved in the initiative -. This exercise is also so important for the involvement of all the entities in the area, moreover from several provinces: there is the metropolitan city of Milan, the Province of Varese is also involved which is close to these areas and there are the parks, the Ticino Park, the Pineta Park and the Groane Park. Today, around a hundred volunteers are involved.”
