Table tennis A1 f – It’s Brunetti’s day: return match with Sudtirol for the 21st championship celebration

Castel Goffredo At the PalaMazzi in Castel Goffredo everything is ready for the return match of the championship final between Brunetti and Sudtirol (it starts at 4pm) and for another Italian celebration. After the 4-0 victory on Thursday evening in Bolzano, the Mantua team only needed a draw to clinch the title. A formality one might say, even taking into account all the seasonal precedents. The company has prepared a special choreography and made space on the noticeboard for the trophy, the 21st of the fantastic Goffredese collection (the other championships were won from 1996 to 2000, from 2002 to 2008, in 2010, from 2016 to 2019 and from 2021 to 2023). Szocs and her teammates have established an authentic sporting dictatorship for several years now, winning everything there was to win. Under the wise guidance of coach Alfonso Laghezza, who, as his role dictates, keeps his concentration high for this second match against Sudtirol. «On Thursday in Bolzano the girls went beyond expectations – says the Brunetti coach – the 4-0 says a lot, but the scudetto has not yet been won. We need to make another effort. Sudtirol will do everything possible to impose itself and lead us to the beautiful one, therefore maximum attention. Having said that, I have full confidence in the girls, who have always demonstrated great professionalism. Those who don’t play, and on Thursday it was Niko’s turn, are still always close to her teammates, a sign of a united and close-knit group. They are all used to playing under pressure, they will not let themselves be influenced by the environment, but will focus on the single match. There is a great desire to party in front of our audience, but the calculations have to be done in the end.”

Meanwhile, the first medals for Brunetti also arrive from the Italian Youth Championships in Terni. Gold for Cecilia Cicuttini in the Under 17 mixed doubles paired with Giacomo Izzo (Milano Sport). Silver for Cecilia Cicuttini and Azzurra Marinelli in the women’s Under 17 team race; another silver for Marinelli in the U15 doubles with Alice Galli (Vallecamonica); and bronze for Cicuttini in the U17 doubles with Maria Tognali (Vallecamonica). Bronze for Marco Travagliati, Gabriele Mutti and Robert Graur in the men’s U15 team competition.
