here’s what the data says – PrimaFriuli

Close to the May 1st holiday, the CGIA’s analysis of employment in Friuli Venezia Giulia offers an interesting insight into the quality of work in the region. Placing itself in sixth place among the Italian regions for the quality of work, Friuli Venezia Giulia surpasses important realities such as Emilia Romagna and Liguria, thanks to a survey based on eight key indicators of fair and sustainable well-being.

Employment growth: the numbers speak for themselves

From 2019 to 2023, Friuli Venezia Giulia saw an increase of 12 thousand employed, although the last year recorded a slight decrease of one thousand units. Despite these fluctuations, the total number of employed people reaches 520,000 units. In particular, Trieste and Udine show a significant increase, with Trieste recording an increase of 1,500 employed in the last year alone.

The persistent challenges

Despite progress, the region still faces significant challenges, such as a low female employment rate and wages that are on average lower than major European economies. These problems are exacerbated by a low level of productivity and a high rate of NEETs (young people who do not study or work).

Quality indicators and areas for improvement

The region shines in some of the eight labor quality indicators analyzed, but shows areas for improvement in the following areas:

Overeducated employed: Friuli Venezia Giulia is in 14th place, with almost 30% of employed people having a higher education qualification than required.

Job satisfaction: With only 53.5% of employed people expressing high satisfaction with their work, the region ranks 10th nationally.

These data reflect the complexity of the labor market in the region, indicating both successes and challenges.
