«Last night, just before 11pm, at the end of another particularly intense edition of the Liberation Day, a group of criminals attacked one of our employees and a collaborator, stealing the proceeds of the entire day of celebration». They made it known from Casa Cervi, in Gattatico in the province of Reggio Emilia, animated yesterday by around 10,000 visitors. The attack occurred in the car park of the complex: four people with hooded faces sprayed pepper spray pepper on the two people who were carrying the metal boxes with the proceeds from the day’s food and drink sales – we are talking about no less than 80,000 euros – and then disappeared across the fields. The Carabinieri are investigating the episode. Yesterday’s event was attended by, among others, the former prime minister Romano Prodi, the leader of the CGIL Maurizio Landini and the president of the Emilia-Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini.

The president of the Cervi Institute Albertina Soliani speaks of “a slap in the face to all the people of Casa Cervi”. This “house” – she adds – continues to be in the crosshairs: 80 years ago set on fire by fascists, today the target of this aggression.” The head of the Cervi and culture museum Mirco Zanoni, contacted by Dire, comments: «It’s a truly bitter affair. It was a vulgar question of money, there is no specific matrix against anti-fascism. But in fact a symbolic place of the Resistance was struck, whose spirit is what will animate our next celebration.” However, “it is unfortunate that it was not so much us who were robbed as the citizens participating in April 25th”, concludes Zanoni.

«The entire Anpi expresses maximum and passionate solidarity with Casa Cervi, to the Alcide Cervi Institute, to its president Albertina Soliani, as well as our national vice president, and to the staff attacked, for the theft of all the proceeds of the great popular festival of April 25th – in which thousands of people participated – which occurred yesterday”. The national president of the Anpi Gianfranco Pagliarulo said this. “A very serious fact, for which we hope – he continued – the immediate identification of the perpetrators and their bringing to justice”. Casa Cervi, concludes Pagliarulo, «is a fundamental place for anti-fascist memory and culture, and no one must dare to violate it and attack it criminally».
