106 thousand people have registered, 7 thousand less than on April 25, but the number of paying tourists has increased: 22 thousand instead of almost 16 thousand, as happened yesterday. At 12.30, checks on possession of the payment QR code were 11,500, half that number. As you can see from the images, the control reins are loose: the code is checked almost on request and the streets and foundations are crowded like never before.
At Ca’ Farsetti they are satisfied with how the debut day went. The protest demonstration remained a battle of the associations that had announced it. The Venessia.com joke also interested the international media more than tourists. The latter were much more committed to having the voucher recognized in order to pass through the gates and enjoy the most beautiful city in the world.
Objective not achieved for the first two days
Having recognized everyone’s roles, however, we must ask ourselves whether the objective of introducing the entrance ticket, i.e. limiting the number of visitors, has been achieved. The answer is no, the city is invaded in these hours, as always happened for the long weekend of April 25th. The money raised, 78 thousand euros, barely covers, as the mayor Luigi Brugnaro said, the expenses, i.e. the 75 informant stewards in 16 areas, the information totems and all the technology to provide the pass. It was all foreseen, the municipality’s response, 5 euros is not a prohibitive sum, the idea had to be tested.
In 2025, a maximum threshold will be set for hot days which could even reach 10 euros and, in that case, a group of people could be discouraged from coming to the city. What is certain is that a limited number of arrivals will not be introduced.
