Accessible stations, the Ligurian ombudsman removes architectural barriers from the Arenzano airport

Genoa – The Arenzano railway station, in the metropolitan city of Genoa, will become completely free of architectural barriers. RFI has, in fact, accepted the request of the ombudsman of Liguria, Francesco Cozzi, to create a pedestrian entrance on the mountain side of the station, also accessible to people with reduced mobility and mothers with prams. The new access, as suggested by some associations and the municipal administration, will use the third track of the station which has been abandoned for years.

“The station has already been subject of a redevelopment intervention in 2016 and 2017but citizens and associations complain that the entrance from the mountain side takes place exclusively via stairs and that there are no slides to facilitate the transport of suitcases and bicycles – explains Cozzi – the Municipality’s design hypothesis envisages, in addition to access without architectural barriers, also a rest area for bicycles and motorcycles”.

The construction work will be the responsibility of the Municipality, which will acquire the area from RFI on free loan for use. “We thank RFI and the Municipality of Arenzano for the sensitivity shown, with the hope that the project for the transfer of the loan for use of the area and the economic and financial feasibility project of the intervention will be carried out quickly”, concludes the former magistrate.
