The Carabinieri of the Adrano station arrested a 31-year-old local man with a police record, responsible for the crime of family abuse.
At the basis of the arguments, a bad relationship with the whole family, mother, brother and sisters, and the continuous demand for money from the mother, often degenerating into actual physical aggression, also accompanied by death threats.
The mother’s telephone request for help
In this context, at around 1pm the Carabinieri operations center in Paternò received a telephone request for help from a 59-year-old local woman who, alarmed and desperate, said she had barricaded herself in her room to escape her son’s fury.
In the meantime, a patrol from the local station, engaged in a service to prevent widespread illegality in the area, well aware of the particular delicacy of the situation, which could have degenerated in a few moments, therefore reached the house in a matter of minutes, asking also the support of other colleagues.
The arrival of the police at the house
It was the woman who opened the door of the house, terrified by the idea that her son would put his death threats into practice, and only came out of her shelter – the bedroom – when she saw the Carabinieri arriving, and was waiting for him at the entrance.
The lady’s story
The unfortunate woman, still agitated by what had happened, at that point heartened and opened up to the police, saying that it had all started, shortly before, with yet another request from her son for money, with the excuse of wanting to buy cigarettes. The woman, however, fearing that her son might be using drugs, had refused to give him what he requested so the young man had immediately gone into a rage, first destroying a vase on the terrace and then a chair in the kitchen, finally locking himself in the his room and shouting that he would kill anyone who showed up, even the police.
The dialogue with the son
The latter, after various and prolonged attempts at persuasion, finally managed to spontaneously get the 31-year-old out, who opened the door to his room and continued to scream and gesticulate, repeating to the soldiers that sooner or later he would kill all his family members.
The discovery of two knives and a stick
Once the agitated man had calmed down and the woman was made safe, in light of both the destructive behavior of the 31-year-old and all those threats, the police began to search the young man’s bedroom, discovering the presence of two kitchen knives, both with blade of 19 cm and total length of 31 cm and a wooden stick of approximately 75 cm to which a rubber handle had been made, all seized.
Once this operation was completed, the crew then moved on to rebuilding family relationships, from which it was understood how the aggressive and sometimes violent behavior of the 31-year-old was now repeated every day.
The arrest
The man, arrested, was placed by the police at the disposal of the judicial authority which, after having validated the arrest, ordered him to be placed in precautionary custody in prison, where he still remains while waiting for a community to be identified where will be subjected to house arrest.
