Yet another scam carried out by fake aqueduct technicians against a 75-year-old pensioner from Cavaglià has succeeded. Two people who, around midday yesterday, April 25th, knocked on the door of the pensioner pretending to be technicians in charge of restoring a pipe which even caused poisonous vapours. To make it more realistic, an acrid-smelling substance was also sprayed which must have frightened and convinced the landlady that the alarm was real. The scammers then invited the pensioner to put money and gold objects in an envelope so they could not interfere with the pipe. Only after the two strangers left did the landlady realize she had been tricked. The loot consisted of around two hundred euros in cash plus some gold jewellery.
