A tour through the villages and hills of Genoa, in search of the ancient traditions linked to one of its most famous products: Genoese PDO basil. Peppone Calabrese and Livio Beshir travel it, together with Margherita Granbassi, in the new appointment with “Linea Verde”, broadcast on Sunday 28 April at 12.20 on Rai 1.
The episode starts from Boccadasse, one of the most famous fishing villages still visible in Genoa. Together the hosts will then move to Pra’ to compete in a pesto making competition, the outcome of which will be judged by Roberto Panizza, creator of the Genoese Pesto Al Mortar World Championship, who will subsequently explain the recipe for fresh artisanal pesto.
Also in Pra’, Livio Beshir will talk about how Genoese DOP basil is born and its cultivation and harvesting methods. In Camogli, Peppone will talk about the ancient maritime tradition of this village and also about a famous handmade Ligurian pasta: trofia. Livio Beshir will also enter one of the symbols of the city of Genoa, the Aquarium: a true treasure of biodiversity, made up of around 10,000 specimens of 400 species from all the seas of the world.
The public will then be able to learn the story of a girl who, in Ceranesi, in the heart of the Alta Val Polcevera, chose to live in close contact with nature by raising Alpine chamois goats and producing cheeses. We will talk about heroic agriculture in a small company dedicated to the organic cultivation of fruit and horticultural products. There will also be ample space for nature with Margherita Granbassi who, starting from Portofino, will follow an extraordinary path up to the suggestive Abbey of San Fruttuoso.
Livio, Margherita and Peppone will meet again at the end of the episode on the Boccadasse beach, between a toast and a tasting of typical Ligurian dishes.
