“Ready to cause millions of deaths”

“Several dozen” Russian tactical nuclear weapons have been deployed on the territory of Belarus. This was said by the president of the former Soviet republic, Alexander Lukashenko, quoted by Tass, in a reference to the agreement signed last year with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

In a speech before the People’s Assembly, Lukashenko said that if the West continues to put pressure on Russia, Moscow could use its full arsenal. “It would be nuclear apocalypse,” he warned, explaining that “one careless word, one movement could cause an armed conflict up to the use of nuclear weapons.” “We don’t want to fight anyone. And I am convinced that we will not. Our adversaries are clear that we can launch a serious response that will kill millions of people instantly. It will be a new war,” he added.

The Belarusian president also feared “thehigh risk” of military incidents on the border with Ukraine, accusing the United States of “doing everything” to drag Minsk into war. In a speech before the Supreme National Assembly, Lukashenko said: “The main risk is represented by a regional hot spot, which is certainly Ukraine. Washington will drag our country into the conflict in any way.”

If Ukraine does not enter into negotiations, it will lose its statehood and may cease to exist“, the President of Belarus said again. “It is the best situation to make peace and sign a peace agreement”, he added. The Russians, he specified, “will not leave Crimea or the Eastern regions”.
