Using rosemary oil as an anti-hair loss remedy is a trend on some social networks, especially on TikTok, but does it really work? What does Science say about the use of this substance for hair health?
A 2015 study of 100 men and cited by several magazines found that rosemary oil seems to get an increase in hair count after six months of application.
But from here on, to talk about a useful remedy for hair health, further evidence is needed.
Rosemary oil remedy for hair loss: does it work?
Without a doubt the active ingredients of rosemary oil help to improve the health of hair and scalp: glycolic acid protects hair and makes it softer; flavonoids stimulate growth.
Furthermore Saponins have an anti-inflammatory function while bitter substances have antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. There is also a study conducted by a group of Brazilian researchers from the universities of Sao Paulo which attests to the qualities of the substance in destroying fungi and bacteria.
However, Mia Jing Gao, London dermatologist specializing in hair lossuse caution: “We need more research before we can recommend rosemary oil as a miracle substance.”
