Shortly after midday, today 25 April, the funeral of Francesco Pio D’Amaro, the 13-month-old child bitten and killed by two pit bulls last Monday, April 22, in his home in the Campolongo di Eboli district. Tears and crowds upon the arrival of the small white coffin, which was carried to the church by the uncles while the coffin was followed by the child’s parents. Yesterday afternoon the body had been returned to his familytransferred to an area made available by the funeral home and used as a funeral home.

The medical examiner who performed it the autopsy on the body of the child, found numerous injuries and confirmed that death occurred within a few minutes. In particular they were injuries to the back of the neck are lethal, a sign that one of the pit bulls bit Francesco Pio in the neck, confirming the reconstruction that the child was in the arms of an uncle. But the autopsy also revealed a fracture of the spine, other wounds scattered all over the body also caused by bites and finally brain trauma.

Francesco Pio’s body will be buried, as desired by the child’s mother and grandfather, at the Salerno cemetery near the grave of an aunt recently passed away. The Municipality accepted the request by urgently approving a resolution which provides for the burial in the Brignano cemetery area. Meanwhile today in Eboli, Mayor Mario Conte he arranged citizen mourning. Shops closed and flags at half-mast on all public buildings.

In recent days, the Prosecutor’s Office has registered five people in the register of suspects for the child’s death. Paola FerrentinoFrancesco Pio’s mother and uncles Simone and Giuseppe Santoro: they are accused of complicity in manslaughter for failure to take care of the pit bulls. And the owners of the dogs are also under investigation, Gaia Sabato and Fabio Fiorillo.
