Explosion at dawn, a Ponte San Giovanni ATM blew up

Several residents of Ponte San Giovanni were woken up at dawn today (Thursday) by a loud bang. The call to the Operations Center of the Carabinieri Provincial Command arrived at 4.40 am, reporting the explosion at the headquarters of the Banca Centro Toscana Umbria, in via Gustavo Benucci.

The firefighters arrived on site, together with the soldiers of the mobile radio section and the Ponte San Giovanni station. The explosion where the ATM was located also damaged other rooms on the first floor of the building.

From a careful inspection conducted with the help of the Carabinieri of the Scientific Investigation Section of the Investigative Unit of the capital, including the anti-sabotage bomb squad, it was ascertained that the perpetrators had removed several thousand euros in banknotes contained in the automated teller machine, and then disappeared.

Investigations conducted by the police are underway to reconstruct the dynamics of the event and identify those responsible. The building concerned, with the exception of the rooms on the ground floor, where the branch is located, is usable following a check carried out by the fire brigade personnel.
