A near tragedy in Aci Trezza, where the local Carabinieri saved a 60-year-old local man who was about to hang himself in the house where he lived, now alone, after the death of his wife.
In the circumstance, it was the same man who called “112”, announcing his desire to “put an end to it”, as he was experiencing depression, perceived as unsustainable on the anniversary of his other half’s death.
The operator of the Acireale Company’s Operations Center received the call, also trained in the management of these specific and delicate cases, during which it is vital to immediately acquire all the information necessary for a life-saving intervention. In those moments, the Carabiniere thus managed to maintain constant telephone contact with the unfortunate person, establishing a relationship of empathy and closeness with him to try to convince him to desist, all this while directing a patrol from the Radiomobile Unit to his home.
Within a few minutes, the crew sent to the rescue was also joined by a Marshal from the Aci Castello station, who, although free from duty, immediately reached the victim’s apartment, as the victim had asked to speak to him. .
