Vera Pescarolo Montaldo dead in Rome – Last hour

Seven months after the death of her husband Giuliano Montaldo (6 September 2023), Vera Pescarolo also passed away today.

Born in Milan on 28 November 1930, daughter of the famous actress Vera Vergani, niece of the writer and journalist Orio Vergani, sister of the producer Leo Pescarolo and mother of the writer Elisabetta Montaldo, she was a producer, screenwriter, actress, casting director and assistant director.

She dedicated much of her career and life to Giuliano Montaldo of whom she was his closest collaborator, accomplice and muse. Together they worked, in an almost symbiotic relationship that lasted about 65 years, on cinematographic and television works ranging from the TV drama Marco Polo, to the famous films Sacco and Vanzetti and Giordano Bruno with Gian Maria Volonté or L’Agnese va a mori with Ingrid Thulin, up until the last work they created together, Montaldo’s Industrialist who – as an actor – had won a David di Donatello in 2017 for his performance in Tutto tutto que voi by Francesco Bruni, in which Vera had also made her last appearance in an exciting cameo.

Giuliano had dedicated a book to Vera entitled Un grande amore (published with great success in 2021 by La nave di Teseo). The text narrates over seventy years of career in front of and behind the camera crossed by the red thread that binds Vera and Giuliano in a story full of love and cinema. The documentary Vera & Giuliano, by Fabrizio Corallo, available on RAI Play, tells the story through their words.
