Zack Snyder spoke to Collider about the death of a character in Rebel Moon 2the second part of the sci-fi blockbuster.
It’s about Gunnarthe character played by Michiel Huisman.
“In many ways it represents Kora’s first love, it was the result of her choice without constraints, given that she is finally independent in her life. His job was to free her emotionally and I think he succeeded. Michiel was so good” explained the director, before adding: “In the R-rated edition we will see that during the love scene he teaches her the value of intimacy and everything else“.
In case there was any doubt, the character really is dead: “I couldn’t show him in the PG-13 version, but he really died this time“.
During an interview with Screenrant he then addressed the same topic:
This love of his was external to the conflict, Gunnar was just a man. He’s a good guy, but he’s just a man at the end of the day. He is not necessarily a soldier or a leader, he is a stepping stone for her, who is now on a cathartic journey. Gunnar’s sacrifice is an important part of that journey.
