Starting from Thursday 25 April 2024 the municipality of Venice experience the solution designed to calm the waves of tourists who flock to the city during the summer. It is a 5 euro ticketto pay for daily entry to the historic city. Bookings boom from the first day, but the majority of members are exempt from payment.
Ticket Venice: how it works
To counter the invasion of tourists, Venice becomes the first art city in the world to impose (currently being tested) a entrance fee to the centre historical.
It is a 5 euro ticketto be paid after registering on the appropriate portal, for passage to the historic city between 8.00 am and 4.30 pm.
The municipal communication campaign
Starting from June 1st a cap on tourist groupswhich cannot exceed 25 people per group.
Loudspeakers are also banned commonly used by tourist guides.
To control the inputs a has been activated Municipal smart control roomwhere the images from the cameras and the data from the people counting sensors will converge.
Paid days
The 2024 access fee will be tested over a period of 29 days, starting from Thursday 25 April until to Sunday 14 July 2024.
The ticket will not be requested every day, but rather in the only dates considered “black stamp” for the quantity of expected visitors.
For a fee, the entire long weekend between April 25th and May 1st, until Sunday 5th.
Subsequently, the ticket will be required every Saturday and Sunday May, June and July.
Those exempt from the entrance tax
The following are exempt from paying the ticket: i residents in Venice and all the citizens of Venetocasual workers, temporary residents, children under 14 and people with disabilities.
No contribution even for the tourists staying overnight in a hotel in the city, because they already pay the municipal tourist tax.
With the exception of Venetians (who will simply need to show a document in the event of a check), it will still be necessary to register on the dedicated app to obtain the Exemption QR Code.
Considering the exemptions, of the 80 thousand registered for April 25th, only 1 in 10 paid the contribution of 5 euros.
All the others belong to the exempt categories, including 30,300 guests of accommodation facilities and 9,450 resident citizens in the Veneto region.
