Manu Chao returns to the No Borders Music Festival on Sunday 28 July with an exclusive concert (starting at 2pm) at the Fusine Lakes – site with the GSTC sustainability mark.
The 29th edition of the festival hosts a free and borderless artist, who fully represents the nature of the music festival on the border between Italy, Austria and Slovenia.
Manu Chao was born in Paris to Spanish parents, who fled to France to escape the Spanish dictatorship. He spent his childhood surrounded by runaway artists, who often found refuge in his parents’ house.
In the mid-eighties he founded the band Mano Negraan avant-garde group that sings in French, English and Spanish, fusing different cultures and styles such as rock, punk, reggae and Iberian music.
In 1998 came global success with ‘Clandestine’his solo debut, with which he addresses social themes, in which African and South American rhythms dominate.
The album achieved worldwide fame and represents for many young people a symbol of the social and civil commitment that music can have, and of which Manu Chao has become the bearer.
To date, Manu Chao is considered one of the freest artists and least compliant with the rules of the recording market: a true musical and cultural icon.
Among his best known songs are ‘Clandestino’, ‘Mala Vida’, ‘Mr Bobby’, ‘Rumba de Barcelona’, ‘La Vida Tombola’, ‘King of Bongo’ And ‘Me Gustas Tu’.
