Around 9am on 16 April, on the A14 in the Foggia area, five policemen from the ‘Puglia central’ crime prevention department in Bari, returning from the province of Foggia where they had carried out a precautionary custody order during the night, came across in a road accident while in the meantime numerous vehicles and heavy vehicles were passing by at high speed.
The police noticed an accidented van stopped in the fast lane and a truck with a trailer occupying both the emergency and travel lanes. In addition to the pieces of sheet metal, wood and nails, there were two injured people, in a confused state on the roadway and another man, “in obvious danger to his life”with his leg leaking blood stuck between the twisted sheets of the vehicle stopped in the overtaking lane.
The National Union of Police Members has asked the Police Commissioner of Bari Giovanni Signor and the director of the Department Antonio Perrone to evaluate the extraordinary activity expressed by the officers and to reward them, given that “they faced the death that was “having fun” with the lives of the three unfortunate people in the accident and with their own”.
The Snap highlights the teamwork of the cops, who showed “undoubted and uncommon professional skills mixed with contempt for danger and a spirit of self-sacrifice, thanks to which death was prevented from prevailing”.
And again, it reads, “they worked in a timely and impeccable manner, managing to secure men and vehicles and, at the same time, preventing other motorists from risking their own safety and that of others in reaching the scene of the accident”.
For the union only the timely intervention of the agents – “who moved the vehicles, provided first aid to the injured and alerted the rescue “machine” promptly and with every detail, by having the 118 personnel, air ambulance and firefighters arrive on site, avoiding the worst”.
“As always, even in this situation, our colleagues have given ample demonstration of being alongside citizens to best honor the “mission” of the State Police, giving it luster and prestige”.
