SARONNO – The Saronno club “La Bussola” remembers the day of remembrance of the Armenian genocide. “Few people remember it, but every year April 24th is the Day of Remembrance of the Armenian Genocide: amid almost general indifference, taking advantage of the smoke screen caused by the First World War which was setting the whole of Europe on fire, one and a half million Armenian Christians were exterminated with the most brutal and hateful means.”
The Circolo della Bussola had already addressed the topic 2 years ago with a moving meeting in which we reconstructed the salient phases of the genocide.
“Today the situation has not changed: the small state of Armenia occupies an area slightly larger than Lombardy in which just under three million inhabitants live, 98.5% of the population still tenaciously and proudly Christian. But few know that this small strip of land is still under attack by Azerbaijan’s neighbors who, day after day, are biting off strips of Armenian territory, in a war that, at most, occupies the last few pages of newspapers or is reported in some journalistic report that is broadcast strictly after midnight”.
And they continue: “Even the proximity to the Italian celebration of the Anniversary of the Liberation on 25 April does not contribute to giving any importance to this massacre which is still sadly relevant today: we, at the Circolo della Bussola, want to keep this small luminous signal lit, to remember to all those who follow us that today, more than ever, it is still possible, amid general indifference, to die because of one’s religion.”
The note concludes with the committee’s intention to organize a new meeting which “in ideal continuation with the first, sheds light on the terrible situation in which Armenia finds itself today”.
