The public meeting entitled ‘Partisans always’, organized by the CGIL Puglia, took place this afternoon in the Department of Law of the University of Bari. Among the illustrious names of the speakers, the illustrious figure of the historian Luciano Canfora made his way, fresh from the unusual media exposure of the last few weeks linked to the defamation lawsuit that Prime Minister Meloni filed against him.

The professor emeritus of the University of Bari has not lost his dialectical verve, making some statements to the journalists present before starting the debate. Canfora reiterated the importance that the celebrations of April 25th have had for about 80 years “because it has never been a date accepted by the pro-fascist minority and every time it is a problem to explain the meaning, this task falls to the various generations that follow one another, for as long as we are allowed“.

The teacher also commented on the Antonio Scurati affair, which saw the failure to air the monologue on April 25th written by the intellectual and scheduled in a Rai 3 program.”I wasn’t surprised at all – declared Canfora with a sarcastic streak – those who know the remote and recent events know that this is the sore point par excellence“.

It seems to me that this started in April 2022 – explains the emeritus professor regarding the case in which he is accused of defamation against Giorgia Meloni – I’m tenacious, but maintaining amazement for 24 months seems too much to me. I think I’m living the situation wellAnd”.

The Contento room, in the Faculty of Law, was packed: in addition to the participation of numerous students, the presence of university professors and trade union leaders was noted. The rector Stefano Bronzini did the honours, underlining the friendship and professional esteem felt towards Luciano Canfora. In Bronzini’s speech there was also room for alarm over university research, which according to the rector would be penalized by the latest choices made by the executive power.

The general secretary of the CGIL Puglia, Gigia Bucci, reiterated the need to keep our guard up towards the democratic cornerstones that regulate Italian political life, underlining the importance of the Constitutional Charter as the main path to follow.
