The Palestinian movement Hamas will return in Cairoin Egypt, next Tuesday, May 7, to “complete the indirect negotiations” with Israel aimed at reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners. This was reported by official Egyptian sources to the “Al Qahera News Channel”. “The Egyptian security delegation has discussed all the details with Hamas and there is great progress in consensus between the two sides,” the source said. Meanwhile, the Palestinian group left the round of ceasefire talks in the Egyptian capital Cairo and its team left for Doha after two days of meetings. Hamas itself confirmed this in a statement. “The movement’s delegation handed over the movement’s response to brother mediators in Egypt and Qatar, where serious and in-depth discussions took place,” the Hamas statement read. Previously, Hamas political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh said the group is “eager” to reach a comprehensive ceasefire that will “end Israeli aggression” in Gaza, accusing the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to “sabotage” the negotiations. For his part, the prime minister accused Hamas of “remaining entrenched in its extreme positions, first of all the request to withdraw all our forces from Gaza”, reiterating that Israel’s objective since the beginning of the war is to disarm and dismantle Hamas. “Israel will not accept Hamas’ demands, which mean surrender, and will continue to fight.”

Still on the diplomatic front, the director of the CIA William Burns will travel to Doha to hold an emergency meeting with Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. This was reported by a source close to the dossier quoted by the Israeli newspaper “Jerusalem Post”. “Burns is traveling to Doha for an emergency meeting with the Qatari prime minister aimed at applying maximum pressure on Israel and Hamas to continue negotiations,” the source added. Meanwhile, ten Israeli injuries were reported today after mortar shells hit the crossing point Kerem Shalom in the southern part of the Palestinian enclave. According to the newspaper “Israel Yahom”, Hamas claimed responsibility for the bombing with ten rockets and several mortar rounds against the terminal used to transport humanitarian aid to the Palestinians. Three of the injured were treated for their serious injuries. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said that “the Kerem Shalom crossing is currently closed to the public and humanitarian aid trucks.” In total, medical care was provided to seven people.
