Monza restaurant fire tonight 23 April via Lecco

Fire in via Lecco, in Monza, on the evening of Tuesday 23 April. Five fire engines intervened shortly after 9pm at a restaurant close to the Monza park where, for reasons currently under investigation, a fire broke out which, according to what was currently learned, would have affected the kitchen.

Suddenly the Macellerie Monzesi premises filled with smoke and the customers in the room reserved themselves in the street. The alarm went off at 9.12pm and the firefighters arrived in Via Lecco with five emergency vehicles including a tanker, ladder truck, fire engine and emergency wagon from Monza, Lissone and Desio and the 118 rescue team with an ambulance. The restaurant appears to have been open and there were customers in the room who had already been removed by the time the rescue teams arrived.

Two people – a 41-year-old and a 77-year-old woman – had stopped on a balcony and were stuck due to the presence of too much smoke in the premises. The two were recovered with the help of a ladder truck and evacuated. The healthcare staff then transferred them to the hospital under code yellow.

To allow emergency services to intervene, a stretch of road remained closed for a long time on Tuesday evening. “We were right there, thank goodness we only got a big scare” commented some customers at the end of the evening. Investigations are currently underway to trace the causes of the fire.
