Today in the Prefecture of Naples a meeting was held on the issue relating to accessibility in the Sorrento peninsula, with the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, in the presence of the Undersecretary of State for Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, Tullio Ferrante, of the Mayors of Municipalities of Sorrento, Massa Lubrense, Meta, Piano di Sorrento, S. Agnello, Vico Equense, of the representatives of the Metropolitan City, of the Port Authority, of the Director of the Traffic Police Section, of the Anas Director, of the Autostrade Company Concessionaire, of the President of the EAV Ente Autonomo Volturno and of the representatives of the maritime transport companies, of Federalberghi, Confindustria, Atex Campania Association, Aicast and Fiavet Association as well as of the road hauliers’ unions.
In the meeting, which follows the previous ones on the topic, the question of access to the peninsula by tourists and travelers was examined, with the contributions of all those present, in particular in view of the imminent start of the tourist season .
As regards road transport, it was agreed on the opportunity of adopting an ordinance limiting the movement of heavy vehicles exceeding 7.5 tonnes, more restrictive than the prefectural decree currently in force, and with validity not only for the summer period but for the entire year. This ordinance will be adopted by the Municipalities and Anas, each for the section under their jurisdiction.
With regard to rail connections, particularly used especially in the summer period especially by tourists but also of fundamental importance for residents and commuter workers, it emerged that the new device adopted, which provides direct trips Naples – Torre Annunziata – Sorrento Peninsula, with the Torre Annunziata station used as an interchange point for the Vesuvian towns, has allowed, overall, a notable improvement in the service, without prejudice to the fact that work is being done to strengthen connections with the intermediate municipalities.
From a long-term perspective, the scheduled commissioning of the new trains recently purchased will allow for a significant upgrade of the lines.
For sea connections, which, however, are the least used by users, the intensification of routes (Naples/Sorrento and vice versa) was discussed, to be requested from the Campania Region.
Undersecretary Ferrante took note of the needs of the territory represented by all those present, highlighting that, as regards the needs connected to railway traffic, the expansion of the Table to RFI Italian railway network which covers a good part of the route could make a useful contribution between Naples and Sorrento, up to Pompeii and which can absorb a portion of the users.
With regard to sea and rail transport, it has ensured interest in solutions that integrate the respective services for better performance for users.
The Prefect reiterated the joint commitment of all the institutions and bodies involved that operate at the prefectural table, with respect to the delicate problem which requires, pending structural solutions, the adoption of shared devices of a contingent nature, especially in the summer period, marked by a greater influx of tourists.
For the Aicast, the metropolitan president Giuseppe Bonavolontà was present, who addressed the Undersecretary Tullio Ferrante, who brought various suggestions to the table,
managed to “extract some small promises”.
Periodic meetings will be organized on the important issue that impacts the liveability and decorum of the reference area.
