The investigation will establish possible responsibility for the road accident that occurred last Saturday in Taormina, in which Francesco Caruso, the 22-year-old from Letojanni who died in Taormina hospital, lost his life. The Public Prosecutor’s Office of Messina has opened an investigation into the fatal accident, assigned to the deputy prosecutor Roberto Conte, who has entrusted the execution of the investigations to the local police of Taormina. Since yesterday, the driver of the KTM 1200cc motorbike, the 39-year-old AO from Santa Teresa di Riva, who that day was traveling in the opposite direction to Caruso’s Piaggio Beverly 200cc scooter, which was reaching his workplace in Mazzarò, has been under investigation for road homicide: man has appointed the lawyer Antonio Scarcella as his defense lawyer and is hospitalized at the Messina Polyclinic with a concussion, a fracture in his right wrist and some fractured vertebrae, exhausted and shaken by what happened on State Road 114 in Spisone. The two motorcycles were seized, as were the helmets; the toxicological tests, carried out on both the victim and the 39-year-old suspect, were negative.
Tomorrow morning the magistrate will assign the assignment to the medical examiner Giovanni Andò for the execution of the autopsy on the body of the young victim, a unique investigation in which the parties’ lawyers and consultants will participate. Once all the elements have been collected by the local police, who are carrying out the investigations coordinated by Commander Daniele Lo Presti, the Prosecutor’s Office will formulate the exact charge of the crime. Yesterday evening the organ removal operations were concluded, after the choice made by Francesco Caruso’s family, and the team led by Doctor Giuseppe Bova removed the heart, liver, kidneys and corneas which will give life to other patients.
