The President of the Region, Giovanni Totiarrived late for the solemn session on April 25th, convened in the regional council chamber at 11am with the professor’s official speech Guido Levihistorian and professor at the University of Genoa and dedicated to the 79th anniversary of the Liberation.

In fact, the president entered the chamber after the president of the assembly Gianmarco Medusei he took the floor and after the whole room listened to the national anthem standing. Toti entered the chamber at 11.20, when the session was convened for 11. “April 25 is everyone’s day and there cannot and must not be divisions,” Medusei said in the opening of his speech.

And speaking of the controversies and the Scurati case, President Toti, at the end of the session, said: “It must be said clearly that the Italian Republic is founded on anti-fascism, it is necessary that all the political cultures of the country recognize this as well as all those who hold elective public offices. And now also to end the controversies of those who believe that this is a celebration more for some than for others. The April 25th in Italy must be like July 4th in the USA or July 14th in Francea date that represents the whole country.”

Levi’s words

The Scurati case “was something similar to censorship”. Professor Guido Levi, official speaker of the solemn session of the Liguria Regional Council for the 79th anniversary of the Liberationanswering a question from reporters on the sidelines of the ceremony organized in the council chamber entitled a Sandro Pertini. “These controversies are annoying because my idea is that of the Institutes of the Resistance, of those who study these things – comments the professor of History of International Relations at the University of Genoa and director of the magazine ‘History and memory’ of the Ligurian Institute for the history of the Resistance and the contemporary age – is that in some way the Liberation Day must become a celebration for everyone and therefore the controversies play the opposite way, so I always hope that year after year the controversies decrease, but unfortunately they are constantly increase”.
