The match between Luciano Darderi and Federico Coria ends early, valid for the quarter-finals of the Challenger 175 in Cagliari, aka Sardinia Open. With a score of 6-1 3-4 and 30-0 in favor of Darderi, in fact, the Argentine was forced to retire due to a problem with his right thigh which occurred a few minutes earlier. For the native of Villa Gesell, who has always played for our country, another Argentine in the semi-finals: Mariano Navone.

The first set is an absolute domination by Darderi, also because Coria’s second set simply doesn’t work (0/9). The paradox is that the first to lose serve is the host, who however forces the Argentine not to even serve a single serve thereafter. His solidity is much greater, so much so that the 6-1 comes with a certain agility.

In the second set things change slightly: after Darderi’s scoreless break, Coria immediately takes back the stolen goods and the match gets heated. The Argentine, in fact, manages to go ahead 4-2 and serve, but shortly before he complains of a problem in his right thigh, for which he essentially throws away the seventh game and then calls a medical time out. All in vain: the withdrawal arrives almost immediately.

Given the data from Coria’s second (which ultimately becomes 3/16), Darderi’s 67% in points won with the first is the most comforting data. With this victory, however, the host rises to number 54 in the world, and could also aim for the top 50.
