His comment on the “day of Faith” in the episode of The legacy which aired on Sunday 21 April had received a lot of criticism and so Marco Liorni relied on social media to clarify his words. On 18 December 1935 the fascist regime established a day for the delivery of gold wedding rings to support the costs of the colonial war wanted by Benito Mussolini in Ethiopia, while Italy was hit by the sanctions of the League of Nations. The host had defined it as a “truly patriotic gesture”, a statement that was later harshly criticized. «They were days of great suffering, taking off your gold wedding ring to put on an iron one in that Italy was a painful gesture but also a gesture of patriotism», Liorni returns to the issue, «this is what my parents told me grandparents and my father, this is what History says seen with the spirit of the times, not with the eyes of today.” His historical opinion on the subject remains unchanged: «Donating gold to the homeland was done out of patriotism, then there were also stories of people who did it but didn’t want to do it, but that was the spirit of the day». But Liorni wants to clear the field of doubts: «I am an anti-fascist, I could never praise fascism. I was just recounting the emotions of that day with the perspective of the times.” However, a clarification was necessary, “I owed it to you, I’m sorry for those who interpreted it in a different way, I should have been clearer but this was my intention.”
