Tragic road accident this afternoon on the A20 Messina-Palermo, between the Rocca di Capri Leone and Sant’Agata Militello junctions along the Rosmarino viaduct. For reasons currently under investigation, a truck carrying citrus plants and traveling in the direction of Palermo overturned at the exit of a tunnel and the driver, Giuseppe Serio, 66 years old, from Palermo, died.

The agents of the Sant’Agata Militello Traffic Police under the command of the superior inspector Massimiliano Fiasconaro and an ambulance from 118 were brought to the scene but the on-board doctor was only able to confirm the death of the lorry driver. Then two teams from the Sant’Agata Militello and Patti fire brigade detachments arrived. From the headquarters of the Provincial Command of the Messina Fire Brigade, a mobile crane was called in to assist in removing the large vehicle from the road for the purposes of restoring traffic.

The exit for vehicles traveling towards Palermo is located at the Rocca di Capri Leone junction with return to the motorway at the Sant’Agata Militello junction.
