It happened last night, shortly after midnight, in the Pegognaga area of ​​Mantua. A road tragedy involving two retired friends, who periodically went to play cards, burraco, to spend a few hours in company. The victims are Fiorella Bonattia 73-year-old resident of Suzzara di Mantua, and the eighty-year-old Luciana Busana, who lived in Rio Saliceto. The accident occurred at the intersection of Provincial Road 49 and Strada del Vò, a point that has already been the scene of serious accidents in the past. The dynamics of the crash are being investigated by the police.

The 73-year-old who was behind the wheel died instantly. The resuscitation attempts by the rescuers for the eighty-year-old from Reggio Emilia, who was traveling next to her, were also useless. The young man driving the BMW was taken to the Poma hospital in Mantua for checks, but did not appear to have suffered any significant trauma. At the scene of the accident, in addition to the emergency medical vehicles and the carabinieri, the firefighters also intervened. It appears that the two pensioners were returning from an evening spent playing cards in a club in the Mantua area, in San Giacomo delle Segnate, when the accident occurred.

Fiorella and Luciana were headed towards Suzzara, to the 73-year-old’s home, where her friend had left her car. Then she too, by car, would later return home to Rio Saliceto. But the violent crash occurred in Pegognaga with dramatic consequences for the two friends. Fiorella Bonatti was known for her volunteer work, including in the Spi-Cgil. She leaves behind her sons Matteo (an operator in a social cooperative that assists disabled people) and Massimiliano (an Iveco employee in Suzzara). Luciana Busana, a widow, not long ago had to face the serious loss of a son. She lived on the outskirts of the town. The police contacted the family through a nephew to inform them of what had happened.
