A year after taking on the role of Councilor for Social Policies, Massimo Tognolli takes stock of the results obtained, highlighting the human and professional value of the team he works with and the important contribution of the third sector.
Continuity and social commitment
“The first result was to continue to provide care and attention to fragile people, and this is the most significant result, obtained above all thanks to the team that I was lucky enough to find, made up of highly professional people and, above all, people who work with heart, passion and enthusiasm,” explained Tognolli. The Councilor also underlined the importance of collaboration with the third sector: “Then there is the galaxy of social services, rich in a large third sector and many volunteers; I refer to them as the excellence of social services and therefore My big thanks go after one year of this new role.”
Emotions and future projects: the show ‘Together’
Asked about the emotions felt during the show “Together”, which involved various local entities linked to social services, Tognolli confirmed the repeat of the event: “Yes, ‘Together’ will be repeated on 27 October at the Rossetti Theatre. We wanted to demonstrate that social service creates beautiful things and can be on stage. We only wanted people with disabilities or fragility at the Rossetti, and the effect was wonderful This year they will really be able to meet at the Rossetti Theater on October 27th, with many new features compared to last year.”
Future challenges
On the question of future challenges, the Councilor highlighted the growing need for resources and attention: “The challenge is one and very big: a social service that requires more and more commitment because more and more people are assisted by it. Today we are at over 20,000 people, also considering their families and friend networks, which means that we try to give care and attention to a number that varies between 80,000 and 100,000 of our fellow citizens.”
Tognolli concluded by underlining the importance of careful management of the budget dedicated to the social sector: “We must be capable, attentive above all to the issue of the budget, since today the social service represents a third of the entire current expenditure of the budget of the Municipality of Trieste for the social. It is a very significant proportion, probably unique in Italy. We must be good at investing this figure in the best possible way because this figure will remain approximately the same but the number of people who will be, who will be part of the social galaxy will increase.”
With these commitments and projects, the Department of Social Policies of Trieste is preparing for another year of intense activity, aiming to further improve assistance and support for the most vulnerable people in the community.
