Community Rooms are more than a silver screen. They are a place where you can experience creativity first-hand and where you can build meaningful encounters.
In this spirit the National Coordination for ACEC Programming together with Aliante Film and the d’Alò family, he organized a
special screening to unite families (from children to grandparents) in front of the magic of Italian animation.

An opportunity to rediscover Mary and the Midnight Spirit, the most recent film by director Enzo d’Alò, experiencing it from the inside. The touching story of the little girl
Mary and her grandmother Emer, based on the book by Irish writer and screenwriter Roddy Doyle, allows families to begin a dialogue on topics such as grief, passion and life aspirations.

The film returns to the Community Halls in a special edition. The screening will be followed by an interactive workshop which will take place live, through which the young spectators and their companions they will be able to discover thanks to the voice of those who created the film. You will be able to learn what happened behind the scenes of Mary and the Midnight Spirit, but also the techniques and choices adopted to create an animated film. How is dubbing done? What is a storyboard? How can characters “come to life” on the big screen?
These are some of the questions that will guide the lesson.

THE INITIATIVE
Saturday 27 April 2024 – 3.30 pm – Simulcast screening in the Community Rooms
“Why go back to showing Mary and the Midnight Spirit in our theaters? The language of animation is today, in Italy, unfortunately relegated to a space
marginal. We, however, believe that stories like those that Enzo d’Alò told during his long career can still unite generations. The parents, who perhaps started seeing his first films many years ago as children with their children. But also grandparents, who can choose to accompany their grandchildren to the theater in the certainty of finding a work to enjoy without danger.”

“To celebrate World Drawing Day, we therefore wanted to show the film in almost forty theaters throughout Italy. A simultaneous screening, followed live on the big screen by an animation lesson that will take us right into d’Alò’s studio, where the magic happens.
These are the Community Rooms: spaces where cinema is not just a consumer product, but where art lives and becomes a relationship with people, discovery, curiosity, inspiration. It is with this spirit of research that we invite the public not to miss this unique opportunity.”
