FURCI SICULO – With the aim of combating the risk of fires and promoting the cleaning of uncultivated land, in view of the upcoming summer season, the Mayor of Furci, Matteo Francilia, has issued an ordinance establishing a series of prohibitions and provisions. The primary objective is to protect the community from potential harm and ensure public safety.
The ordinance, in force until 31 October 2024 following a councilor’s decree of the Sicilian Region, establishes a series of prohibitions and provisions regarding the lighting of fires, the use of electrical or naked flame equipment and the correct disposal of waste, especially those containing flammable materials. The decision to extend the period of validity of these regulations is motivated by the awareness of the serious fire danger that characterizes the summer season, especially in abandoned or uncultivated land, where spontaneous vegetation becomes a potential fuel.
The ordinance requires the citizens of Furci to adopt prevention measures, such as cleaning land invaded by vegetation and removing any element that could represent a danger to public hygiene and safety. In particular, owners and managers of land bordering public roads are required to carry out cleaning operations at their own expense.
Violation of the provisions of the ordinance entails pecuniary sanctions proportionate to the seriousness of the infringement. The fines vary from a minimum of 77.47 euros to a maximum of 10,329 euros, depending on the nature and severity of the infringement committed. It is important to underline that the ordinance is not only intended to sanction infringements, but also to raise awareness in the community of the importance of preventing fires and caring for the environment. The collaboration of all citizens is essential to guarantee the safety of the territory and the protection of the environmental heritage.
