Saphira, the dog who was dying of hunger, saved by the police in Turin

The officers of the Mirafiori police station saved a dog, malnourished and mistreated, which it was kept inside an apartment – right in the Mirafiori district – in terrible hygienic conditions.

His owner, a 55-year-old criminal under special surveillance, was reported for animal cruelty. A few weeks ago, in that same accommodation a young Cane Corso had died of hunger and thirst, because whoever was supposed to look after him had probably preferred to feed the pregnant female and then sell her puppies.

The alert to the police came from a voluntary association that protects animals and which indicated that a dog was kept in the apartment, probably the victim of mistreatment. The officers immediately carried out a check and found that the mother of the puppies (rescued by the association’s volunteers), Saphira was forced to stay on a dirty terrace, probably without ever going out, not even for physiological needs.

When the police entered the house they recovered the running dog, docile and cheerful, even if a little disoriented. Now we are looking for a family to take care of her: she is an almost 2 year old specimen with extraordinary trust in humans.

Possible Adoption requests for the Corsican dog can be left at the Mirafiori police station by calling the switchboard in the afternoon on 011/6177511.
